I’m no bag expert but I have used a few. To be honest I’ve never really been that happy with any of them including offerings from Camel Back, Kreiga and even the previous incarnation from Lezyne; the Smart pack.
Lezyne bags of previous years have been disappointing in terms of styling but the thing that always made me purchase one was the organisation pocket as the main thing I hated was having to rummage around for my food or tools.
This year’s bag is totally new, the styling is spot on, price is a very competitive £59.99, the quality and presentation is good, comes with a 3L bladder as standard and has 10L gear volume. It fits everything you need for a whole days riding. I have packed clothes in it for a work commute and it goes small enough for a 2 hour hack. There is a big storage section where the bladder is (the bladder also sits in its own compartment to stop it moving around), the organisational section where you keep everything else (pump, tools, food etc) has its own laid out compartment and there is also an almost hidden compartment for an optional rain cover.
The Svelte Pack feels really light when on and the contours of the bag are very comfortable. At last this is a bag with some descent shaped straps that fit me properly. I love the fact that the removable waist-strap has a pocket just big enough to fit my phone in.
The mouldable aluminium spine, which is a nice addition to all the 2010 Lezyne hydration range, helps with fit and holds the bag upright so everything doesn’t sag to the bottom. The arch the spine creates also increases airflow and stops the bag from bulging into an awkward shape when full of liquid or clothes.
