Review by Oli:

I’ve long been a fan of Charge but one that, until last autumn, had not owned a single one of their products for some reason. That was to change when I was looking for a new saddle for my winter MTB. For road I love the super minimalism of the Specialized Toupe and despite being supremely comfortable wanted something that can handle my slap dash handling off-road. Charge combine a sense of style with competitive prices so the Knife ticked both boxes and a healthy compromise of weight versus price.

The appearance strikes a fine balance between slenderness and toughness, so wouldn’t be out of place on either road or mtb. It doesn’t show any radical forms of cut-aways, channels or “comfort zone” areas and refreshingly look just like a saddle. Clean, simple and, after having ridden it extensively over winter and in races, I can say very comfortable. They make saddle manufacture look like such a simple business.

My only gripe, and really this is to be expected of a saddle coated in mud half the year, is that it starts to look tatty relatively quickly with finish on the logo rubbing away and some finer parts of the surface peeling off. Not that anyone will notice as I’ll have my arse firmly plonked on it for another 6 months.

What they say:

Employing the same multi award winning shape as the Spoon saddle, the Knife has been slimmed down to race trim using a nylon fibre base, hollow titanium alloy rails and a lower profile to combine the comfort of the Spoon with the weight of a race saddle. Suited for all races either cross country, xc or road.
