A sign of the times, it all stemmed from Twitter. Dom, designer and creative director of Kinesis Bikes saw that Morvélo Bicycle Apparel was another Sussex company and sent them a message saying “Like what you’re doing. How about you pop round for biscuits?” A few weeks and several chats later it was blatantly clear that both were thinking the same way about the bike world, design, cycle teams (and even skateboard collections). The Kinesis Morvélo Project (The KMP) was born.
The KMP is a different type of cycle team in the fact we’re not really a team at all. We not just a random collection of riders either. The KMP is a collection of individuals first and foremost but with an emphasis on racing and a love of riding across several disciplines. Each one of us documents their riding and racing adventures and thoughts via this website, their own blog, Twitter and Facebook. It’s a bit like therapy. We’ll also be testing kit throughout the year and riding all sorts of events, so if you see us, come over and say hello. If you see us at a race, give us a heckle.
Come out to play.
In setting up The Project we took a good dose of inspiration from the cult classic film, The Warriors and the strapline ‘Come out to play.’ We saw that the different factions of cycling aren’t too dissimilar to the different gangs from The Warriors. Each one with their own stong identity, sometimes looking at each other with a mix of curiosity and maybe disdain, whereas all they seek is a belonging. The KMP doesn’t belong to one particular ‘gang’ in cycling. We ride and race all types of bicycles and aim to encourage people to diversify, try a new discipline and above all, have fun riding.
Just like you, we’re normal(ish) people with an unhealthy passion for all bikes and a dedication to ride, race and roam. Sometimes we like to go as fast as we can. Occasionally we go for the win. Other times we’ll potter along, take a map, find routes and enjoy the view. Either way we’ll post stories, photos and videos of it. Maybe it’ll help you find motivation in the cold winter months to get out for a ride, maybe it’ll help you take that first step towards racing or try a new cycling discipline or just maybe it’ll be something nice to read on a Friday lunchtime.
Join us for the ride.
